What's in a Name?

I'm Katie Parker, and I plan to study commercial photography this fall. Most of what I do reflects my fascination with the perception of identity, whether it is focused on myself or others. This self portrait, for example, was taken yesterday afternoon in North Asheboro Park to remind myself that I'll always be close to home.
Until I moved to Asheboro for school this fall, I had only lived in Mocksville, which was recently ranked as the most redneck city in North Carolina (article here). For most of my life I have lived walking distance from the town's park, and I underestimated how much I would miss it when I moved. I love everything outdoors, and it's comforting to be able to find a piece of myself in a new place.
Even though I miss familiar places, I have no regrets, and I am grateful every day that I can be a part of the photography program at RCC.
